About Us
He’s Brian. She’s Erin. Together we’re Brerin!
We live in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada, eh) in a two bed/two bath 1000 square foot condo with our two cats, Kiwi and Mango. This isn’t the first place we’ve lived together, but it is our first home. And boy, do we love it!
We are natural DIYers, with Erin being the creative force behind most of the projects and Brian providing the knowledge and muscle. We’re very fortunate that we each have opposite skillsets: Erin can sew, reupholster and come up with clever means of storage/organization. Brian on the other hand, can rewire lamps, install tv mounting brackets and build storage units based off a mere photograph. What’s that they say about there being a great man behind every great woman? Almost all of our projects start like this:
E: Hey honey, how do you feel about…
B: I’m going to interrupt you right there. Are you going to ask me to build or install something?
E: Maybe…
B: Show me a picture and I’ll draw the plans.
E: Deal!
Erin shows Brian the picture and describes how she sees it functioning/working. Brian develops a plan of attack.
B: Okay, let’s go get supplies.
E: Wait, how much is this going to cost?
B: Well okay if we do it like this… Not too too much.
E: Sounds great. Let’s go!
Off to Home Depot (or Home Sense or Value Village or someone’s house from Kijiji.) Arrive home.
E: What should I do?
B: Can you pass me a Robertson screwdriver?
E: Is that the square one?
B: How can you have not learned what the screwdrivers are called?
E: Look man, I’m a *visual* person okay?
B: Hand me the *square* screwdriver please? MANGO! Daddy is trying to work buddy. Off.
E: He loves you so much.
B: Yeah well I’m trying to work!
E: So…what do I do now?
Now Erin isn’t totally useless. It’s just that Brian’s better with the tools. And that way Erin can feed him compliments about how attractive he is when he’s got his headlamp on because he’s wiring a pendant lamp to the wall and the breaker is off and without the headlamp he’d be screwed. Besides, Erin is wicked with her two favourite guns: hot glue and staple.
In addition to being total DIYers, we are also very frugal people. We hunt for sales, surf Kijiji and always try to get the best deal we can. And that doesn’t just apply to our decorating/home improvement projects! We both love to cook and finding inexpensive, yet tasty, meals is another one of our passions. Food is a big part of our lives and we firmly believe that you don’t have to spend like a king in order to eat like one.
