The Proposal

Brian & Erin became officially engaged on February 3, 2008 (Erin’s 24th birthday).

In February of 2007, Erin was scheduled to move in with one of Brian’s best friends, Graham, and Brian was scheduled to move in with another of his friends. On the eve of her champagne birthday, Erin suggested Brian move in with her. It didn’t take a lot of convincing, although he was afraid to hurt his friend’s feelings. So the next morning he talked with his friend, she gave her blessing, and together with Graham, the two moved Brian’s stuff into the apartment.

Just shy of two months after their first date, they mixed CDs, books, and linens and started officially living together!

Fast forward a year, to February 3 in 2008. Erin was sick with a nasty cold and grumpy because of it. Brian had mentioned a present and Erin relentlessly asked for it the night before her birthday. Brian was adament: it had to be given the next day. Erin didn’t believe he had a present and stomped out of the room. Brian laughed because HE knew…

The next day they joined Deb for lunch and afterwards went home. Erin admits that she was acting childish (as she is wont to do when she’s sick) and grumpy. Brian let her and even provoked her, knowing that this would be his only chance! Unbeknownst to Erin, Brian was planning something.

While Erin was in the kitchen, Brian asked if she wanted her present. She said, “Fine. Whatever. I GUESS so.” (She was not amused but Brian was.) He made her close her eyes and when he said it was okay to open them, he was on one knee in front of her with a pair of gorgeous diamond earrings.

He asked her to marry him and she (through a breaking voice!) said yes!
