The Story

Like so many couples in this day and age, Brian & Erin met over the Internet.

In July 2006, Erin signed up on the dating site Plenty Of Fish. After meeting a few interesting characters, Erin was all but ready to give up on the site. In November, she decided to give it two more weeks and if nothing happened in that time, she would close her account.

A few months later, in November, Brian joined the same site. After meeting a few interesting characters of his own, Brian came across Erin’s profile. He decided that she was someone he had to meet and sent the message that changed their lives.

They emailed back and forth through the website a couple of times until Brian suggested they use IM.

One day while on IM, Brian asked Erin if she’d like to go out for dinner with him. Of course, she immediately burst out in giggles and started blushing madly. She wrote back that she’d love to. Brian asked if she liked spicy food, Erin said yes, and he said he’d be taking her to The Louisiana Purchase. (When Erin told Deb about the date, Deb said, “But you don’t like spicy food!” — She does now!)

Brian and Erin met face-to-face on December 1, 2006 outside The Louisiana Purchase. During the seven minute drive, Erin was talking to her friend in hopes of calming her nerves. She’d never felt so nervous about meeting someone before! After waiting in the parking lot for a few minutes, Erin called Brian on his mobile to find out if he was inside. Turns out, his friend was just pulling into the parking lot. When she saw him, Erin just knew.

Dinner was excellent, without any awkward pauses. Conversation between Brian and Erin has always just flowed, without any lulls and that first dinner set the bar. When the waitress came by to take their order, Brian told her to watch Erin because she might steal the silverware!

After dinner, they went for a drive with Brian at the wheel. Not really knowing wherelse to go, he headed in the direction of his place. New houses were being built nearby and they both wondered about one of the roads. Brian asked if they should head down it and Erin agreed. A few minutes later, Erin noticed the lack of streetlights. Then Brian noticed the lack of road.

It was at this moment that they got stuck. In a field. Full of snow.

Erin burst out laughing while Brian promised he’d get them out. As promised, he freed the car from the snow…only to get them stuck again a few minutes later! After getting them out a second time, they got out of the car and followed the tracks into the field.

It was getting late and Brian had been up since 5:30 that morning, so they called it a night. As they were swapping sides, Brian stopped her in the middle of the street and said, “So do I get a kiss out of this?” Thinking it was a weird comment but unable to resist, Erin leaned in for a hug and a quick kiss. Brian said he’d talk to her later, Erin said the same, and they both went home.

As promised, Brian talked to her that weekend and the following week asked her if she’d like to go out again. Erin said yes but still wasn’t sure if Brian liked her at all! Turns out, Brian wasn’t sure if Erin liked him!

By their third date, they’d figured it all out and the rest they say, is history.
